Good Guys with Guns: Security Guard Stops Active Shooter at Mississippi Plant

A security guard at a Mississippi chicken-processing plant became a hero after stopping an armed attacker in what could have been a workplace massacre.

On January 29, 2025, a fired employee of Southern Hens, Inc. in Jones County retrieved a rifle from his truck and opened fire in the parking lot, targeting workers’ vehicles. As panic spread and employees fled, the gunman attempted to enter the plant. That’s when an armed security guard took decisive action.

The guard engaged the attacker, exchanging gunfire before landing fatal shots that stopped the threat. No employees were injured.

Workers at the plant are calling the security guard a hero for preventing what could have been a mass tragedy. This incident serves as another powerful reminder of how a good guy with a gun can make all the difference.
